FROM THE HAND TO THE MIND

Montessori maths is proposed in a fun and fascinating way: the foundation of learning is always the hand which guides the intellect. The Montessori materials make abstract concepts concrete and through manipulation, free choice of the activities and by repeating the exercise - starting from something simple and moving onto higher levels of complexity - the child will gradually reach and control even the most complex theories. The maths materials also intrinsically include error control and therefore allow the child’s self correction: this avoids frustration and the sense of humiliation which are often caused by (involuntary) interference of adults in the learning process.
