The work with hollowed-out numbers, proposed from the age of three, has the purpose of introducing the child to the graphic sign associated with the quantity through the presentation of the linked units; it has the purpose of preparing the hand for writing the symbol, so that through touch the shape of the number is acquired in the muscular memory, and the associated sound in the auditory memory, in a similar way to what is done with letters. The hollowed-out numbers can be used in combination with other materials, such as the numbering rods (MMT-0010).
