The solid wooden block is carefully shaped so as to allow the child to carry it by itself. It has ten cylindrical holes to fit in the same number of cylinders made of the same solid wood with handy knobs. The block can be used singularly and is included in set SE21. The cylinders of block 2 have the same height but increasing diameter and height. USE IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER MATERIALS This material is often used in combination with the coloured cylinders (SE22) because the mobile elements have the same size (red box).

Block 2, to be used after block 1, facilitates freedom of choice and concentration, gross and fine motoric skills, eye-hand coordination, visual perception through the education of sight with reference to dimension (this block presents the idea of thin/thick and the related gradations). It also develops the seriation ability and offers the child important keys to understand the environment expressed on various levels, including the logical-mathematical level. Moreover it prepares indirectly for writing through carrying out the work from left to right and learning the correct grip that will help the child to correctly hold the pen when starting to write.
